We wish to announce that the deadline for the Pengician Poetry Chapbook Prize & the Adaeze Prize for Novella have been postponed from 30th June to 14th July, 2024.
1. The Pengician Poetry Chapbook Prize
This prize, established in 2020 by Jaachi Anyatonwu, is awarded annually to previously unpublished African poets. The Pengician Poetry Chapbook Prize is open to poets only and is intended to amplify the literary skills of young African poets, encourage the development of new writing talent, and help to promote the richness and diversity of African literary traditions.
- Who Can Submit? Young and unpublished African poets.
- Submission Details: We are looking for a collection of your best poems. This is your chance to have your first chapbook self-published at no cost.
- Prize: The winner will receive publication and distribution of their chapbook, gaining exposure and recognition in the literary world.

2. The Adaeze Prize for Novella
The Adaeze Prize for Novella, an initiative of Mental Health Awareness Africa (MeHAA), is an annual prize hosted in collaboration with Ikike Arts. This prize aims to spotlight stories that investigate and explore mental health themes. We seek stories that speak to our humanity and present a mirror through which we can view our individual and societal strengths and flaws.
- Who Can Submit? Emerging African writers with a passion for storytelling.
- Submission Details: We are seeking compelling novellas that capture the essence of African life, culture, and experiences.
- Prize: The winner will receive publication of their novella, along with a promotional campaign to reach a wider audience.
