Leonard Ugwu is set to premiere his latest works, ‘Babel and Boys‘, at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
The Arts Theatre at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, is thrilled to present the highly anticipated performance of Babel and Boys, a play by Leonard Ifeanyi Ugwu Jr., taking place on October 25 and 26, 2024. This initiative is a joint effort by Bigmanchopper Entertainment, Words and Art Nigeria, and the Institute of African Studies at the university.
Published in 2022 by Phoenix Award Books Publications (PABPUB), Babel and Boys serves as a poignant commentary on modern African society, delving into themes of love, betrayal, revenge, and self-discovery. The story revolves around Tunde and Babel, two best friends whose lives are forever altered when Tunde kills Babel’s father in front of him and then disappears. Years later, Tunde reappears in Lagos, grappling with love and his past. What led him to commit such an act, and what are the repercussions he must face? This play offers a gripping look into human emotions and societal issues, making it a must-see.
Directed by Kosisochukwu Ejikeme (Bigmanchopper) and assisted by Victor Emenike (Fadeless), the production features a talented cast, including Paul Chisom (Nairda De Hype), Arinze Bright, Chidozie (Samsung), and Chiamaka Opara, among others.
Leonard Ifeanyi Ugwu Jr. is not only the playwright but also a lecturer and researcher at the Institute of African Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. A dedicated literary figure, his work has been featured in prominent journals and anthologies, including Brittle Paper, Oddball Magazine, and ANA Review. He has authored two poetry collections, Echoes of the Invisible (2017) and Echoes of Bullets (2021), the latter nominated for the Akachi Ezeigbo Prize for Literature 2024. Currently pursuing a doctorate at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Ugwu brings a rich understanding of African narratives to this impactful play.
