Wall, by Bakare Sharafa

The world thinks I’m less valuable around them.
But they forget that they are always beside me.
I’m the barricade between the living and dead,
the big one they can’t dare.

I’m like a confider between the rich and the poor,
the young and old,
the government and masses.

I’m the intermediary between the lonely and her thought.
I keep all secrets of every souls. Even the one that have been caught.

My movement is invaluable and unpredictable.
I received all blame and listened to all praise.
I have been stoned, molested, and stained.
Even dent with clay.

I’m the calendar of young ones in bondage.
Including the one that has been aged.
I’m like a saviour of mankind and first security of all.
With all these, I have never been extol.

Every pains and sorrows lean on me.
Every secrets and news embrace me.
I keep the twin of the living in my heart
reflecting to them during the dark.
Sometimes, they pour their angers at me
by fisting with my heart.
While some goes extra length by opening their
secrets with me in the dark.

I could be a hidden place to the young and old.
And still be a safe to the riches gold.
Have you ever noticed that have been battered by the thunder stroke
that makes me weep?
Including marks on me that make me weak.

I have lot to say with you but you refuse to wait
I thought it because you see me
as something you built with your clay.
