In a brief note introducing the book, the author promises that on reading, you will find strength in the lines. So, I felt I could brush through the poems, find motivation, and move on. But on getting to the third line of the first poem: ‘You are a wonder wrapped in a process’, I knew at once that I had to grab a seat, take my time, and chew on every single line down to the bone and marrow. With that, every word began to take shape; the lines and stanzas, the poems, and subsequently the book turned out to be as uplifting as it is artistic.
The poem titled Power of Silence is a typical bearer of the materials that make up this body of work; almost like tracing it down to its very cells. The poet talks about serenity and what it means to her as an artist and as a person. How she passes messages without saying a word; how her imaginations run wild even within closed doors. She then ends by suggesting that you take your time with silence, to savor its essence, for the words of the poem itself are a gift from silence.
You cannot deny the art of this poem, and that of other poems in the book. And the message is also glaring. Some would argue that poetry, in its completeness, should not lack creativity and message. By those standards, Wonderful Whispers passes with flying colours as a work of poetry.
The poem Changes In Fate is simply mind-blowing. In tactful lines, the poet explains how there could be unexpected changes in your course, but in her very words, ‘a twist can’t change your glory!’ In fact, these changes are what make our stories beautiful and highlight the role of grace in our dealings. Indeed, patches make great designs.
I cannot find the words to describe the poem, Hope. However, I choose to, it would end up watering down the beauty of the poem and the life it gives to whoever takes the time to read it. Again, and again.
What better way to end the book than with the poem, My Version of Tomorrow? The poet gives us a glimpse of what lies in our tomorrow if we choose to believe and stay strong. And what a wonderful future it is.
Wonderful whispers is not in any way a misnomer. These poems are whispers of hope and courage, of strength and will, and of all the wonder that comes with victory. Wonderful whispers is an embodiment of art and great value.
