Father is A Body of Water, by John Owen “St Johnkay” Adimike

Father is A Body of Water

Push. Contract. Push; a father births

A child; 4 kilograms in weight.

Nine months flustered, a

Pound of flesh.

A father rattles like an ocean

Mesmerized.

Wild with blue.

Father is a body of water

Whose salt has gone sour

From seasoning half a dozen

Kids.

He startles waves into 9

Tides of chores:

Feeding. Maintaining. Fixing.

Silence. Protection. Correction.

Sex. Fees. And all 8 again.

Father is neither salty, fresh, nor brackish.

A curious tide where Jesus

Asks for a cast into the banks.

Wallets. Savings. Earnings. Plus taxes.

& Every catch of fish.

Father is a body of water.

This body of water refuses/

To let us drown.

About the Author:

John Owen “St Johnkay” Adimike, is a poet inspired by grief, and a philosopher when he’s hungry.

  1. Oyibosuochukwu Edna Nkem says:

    Weight gained, pride threatened
    Mortal man still unwinding
Father’s trying, but death came knocking…
Father is indeed a body of water, leaving us wanting
If only father is still breathing…

Kudos to you my dearest Johnkay Ademike
    I’m rooting for you!
