LAGOS | A POEM BY ORNYXEL

Home to the rich, the hustler and the lost
I knew I’d love this city from the day I arrived
The atmosphere is awfully tense here
It’s midnight and I finding my way through bariga
What a way to start

I knew she’d be my darling from her very first Sun
Hasty people and angry faces
chattering at  every bend
It’s 8am and I’m fighting my way to lekki
Oh What a way to start

Eko Akete Ile Ogbon
Many, are the tales I’ve heard of you
Of hustlers and wanderers
Of dreamer and doers
Oh, the striving for essence

Eko, since our first act
I have slow dance my way through you
I reckon did good by myself
Had my ups and many lows
Smiled at dawn and drowned in worry at dusk
You know, the human comedy
Existentialism and what ever madness that comes with it
