“THE JOURNEY EP” BY PRIVY | A CONVERSATION WITH POEMIFY PUBLISHER

Poemify Publishers

Welcome to Poemify Publishers, where we explore the various forms of African Art, from traditional sculpting and paintings to contemporary digital art and installations, including Music. Kindly introduce yourself to us privy.

Privy

Okay, good morning bro. I am Samuel Ayelo Momoh by name popularly known as Privy. I live in Kaduna state. I am Bassa Nge by tribe and hail from Kogi state. I am a graduate of Federal college of education Zaria where I studied Special Education/Economics.

I am, by God’s grace, a Gospel Artist an actor, a poet, a shoe cobbler and a special Professional Teacher. I teach children with special needs and love to put a smile on the face of these beautifully talented kids. I also make shoes. I started this profession in 2016. Though it is a lucrative business, I had to take a chill because of school. Eventually, I found myself writing poems since 2018. I was inspired by a friend that I had a crush on who was also a poet and writer.

Year 2020 got me acting professionally. I woke up and felt like this was a path for me to explore and since then acting became my thing. Although I have been on several stages before, I officially began the craft in 2020. I’m about to produce my first movie.

I have been into the music industry for Eight years now but professionally started in the year 2018. I started as a secular Artiste but switched into the Gospel in 2021 after my dad’s demise. My first track was a wakeup call to the fact that I was a sinner so I titled the song “Sinner”. I have released three more tracks after that and have been pushing ever since. I recently dropped my EP ‘The New Journey EP” at the start of the month.

Speaking of ‘The New Journey EP’, most EPs have four tracks or more in their track list but you made only two. You also used a figuratively expressed yourself by naming the tracks “lost” and “found” respectively. Tell us how the journey of this collection came to be.

Privy

Alright! “The new journey” EP literally talks about the new journey I have taken into the gospel. Like I said in the beginning, I started music as a secular artiste. However in 2021, I switched. “The new journey” EP talks about the new life I have found in Christ. “The new journey” EP is my story, the story of my life. I mean I was lost; I was gone, deep into the darkness. I had been lost in the wilderness of sin; I couldn’t find my way out. I tried everything but it wasn’t working.

After all said and done, the track two came out when Christ found me. He took me out of the dark. It is literal, direct, and straight forward. No cap! The tracks were name according to my story and that is why it’s just two tracks. It’s a summary of all that has happened.

Poemify Publishers

It is indeed literal. There is always news and rumors and stories popping out after an artist switches from the secular to the gospel or vice versa, what were your experiences after the switch?

Privy

Well, basically the only challenged I will say I kind of faced, it’s kind of because it didn’t come to me directly. In fact, I got to realize later and t happened slowly. Just as when someone drops a bad habit, it doesn’t leave immediately it happens slowly and inconspicuously. So the only challenges I faced was losing friends. I lost a lot of friend. Presently I only have a few that are still around me.

What are those things you got to realize about the Gospel industry when you got in?

Privy

Well, doing the work of God is a beautiful thing. Although the gospel isn’t what it used to be before; I mean, back then when we were children we know what we were taught in church but these days so many people have twisted the teachings to soothe their needs. Some artiste only care about the popularity, some of them are in because of material things. They do not have the great commission at heart. Their attitude is not something to write home about. It is not just about singing or rapping or acting or dancing etc, it is making sure that Christ is seen. Anyways, the gospel is sweet. There is purpose and then you are definitely putting smile on people’s face so you would have joy on a daily basis.

Beautifully said sir; If you were given the opportunity to collaborate with any four artist, who and who would be on that list?

Privy

Well, that one simple na. If wishes were horses, the four artists I would really love to collaborate with are Lecrae, Dusin Oyekan, Nathaniel Bassey, and Limoblaze.

Poemify Publishers

If wishes were horses, you’d have a very powerful stable. Finally sir, what impact do you want your Music to have on the listeners and what is your advice to other creative like you?

Privy

The only impact Christ will want is what I desired. To Win Souls and bless lives. My advice to creative is that they should keep working hard and pray. They should put more energy and resources into their crafts or whatever they do. And to add humor to their lives, they can follow me up Instagram @iamprivy_official. If you haven’t listened to find you, you can do so via this link. Thank you so much for this opportunity Poemify. More wins.
