Ikike Arts is thrilled to announce the top three winners of the 2024 Pengician Poetry Chapbook Prize, a prestigious literary award that celebrates outstanding poetry chapbooks.
Winners of the 2024 Pengician Poetry Chapbook Prize
The judges, Leonard Ugwu Jr. and Jeff Iwu, carefully evaluated the submissions and selected the following winners:
1st Place: MOONCHILD by Chimezie Umeoka
The judges praised MOONCHILD for its versatility, ardent use of metaphor, and unforgettable imageries. “The poet’s spasmodic exploration of poetic aesthetics and rhythmic flow showcases his wealth of knowledge and experience about poetic essence. The collection’s rich physical attributes of relativism and didactic metaphors earned it the top spot.”
2nd Place: POEMS THAT BURN THE SILENCE IN MY COUNTRY AND BODY by Emmanuel G.G Yamba
The judges commended POEMS THAT BURN THE SILENCE IN MY COUNTRY AND BODY for its narrative technique, social relevance, and assertiveness. “The poems resonate with the principles of realism and address concerns that probe the situation of current globalism.”
3rd Place: RECOLLECTION by Daniel Aondona
The judges appreciated RECOLLECTION for its overflow of spontaneous emotions and captivating poems. “The collection streamlines pain, loss, agony, and brokenness, showcasing the poet’s ability to convey thought-provoking themes.”
“We are delighted to have read and judged these outstanding poems,” said Leonard Ugwu Jr. and Jeff Iwu, judges of the Pengician Poetry Chapbook Prize. “This year’s submissions reveal a significant improvement in craft and creativity, and we are honoured to recognise these talented poets.”
Ikike Arts congratulates the winners and thanks all participants for their submissions.
