BANSI V—Boys & the Reality of the 21st Century Era

The Boys Not Stones Initiative: BANSI is seeking submissions of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, essays, and visual art that explore the experiences and challenges of boys in the current 21st century era. Boys are facing unique challenges, from navigating changing gender roles and expectations to adapting to a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

They are interested in personal stories, essays, and research-based articles that shed light on the realities of growing up as a boy in today’s world. BANSI wants to hear from writers and artists who can shed light on the realities of growing up as a boy in today’s world.

What They Want

BANSI welcomes submissions that tackle a range of topics related to boys’ experiences, including but not limited to:

  • Masculinity and its evolving definition
  • Navigating social media and technology
  • Mental health challenges and stigma
  • Education and career paths
  • Relationships and dating
  • Body image and self-esteem
  • Peer pressure and substance abuse

The Boys Are Not Stones Initiative is particularly interested in work that offers personal insights and experiences, but also accept research-based pieces. They also encourage submissions from writers and artists of all backgrounds and identities, including boys themselves.

Please note that all submissions must be original and not previously published elsewhere. Submissions are due by May 1, 2023. Selected pieces will be considered for publication in their upcoming anthology, BANSI V.

BANSI V—Boys & the Reality of the 21st Century Era

Accepted Categories

The following categories are open to submissions:

  • Artwork: High quality image resolution, minimum of 1080 x 720 pixel density. (jpeg, jpg, png format) Maximum of two entries per submission.
  • Essays & Reviews: 2500 words maximum. A Maximum of two entries per submission.
  • Poetry: A maximum of one poem per submission, not exceeding 40 lines. (Creative exception may be considered)
  • Prose: Flash fiction, short stories, non-fiction not exceeding 300, 2000 & 3000 words respectively.
  • Research article: A minimum of 5000 & a maximum of 10000 words.

Submission Guidelines

  • All word entries must be typed in standard word document format: (.doc or .docx (New Time Roman, 12ppt)
  • The theme of this submission must be strictly adhere to. However, entrants that explore issues around the boy child subject may be considered.
  • Submissions are open to writers and artists from all parts of the world.
  • All submissions must be original, intellectual property of the entrants.
  • All external data source, statistical data, literature review, image and citation must be properly referenced and cited with the hyperlink data source for the research-based entries.
